A year later, Barry still doesn’t get it

Exactly one year ago, That guy who plays the President on TV said this on Memorial Day,

On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today – our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.

The problem here is twofold.   First of all, the sentence as it stands makes non sense at all.  “Fallen heroes” are very unlikely to be “in the audience here today” for reasons that are patently obvious.  I believe that the middle portion of that sentence was meant to be a heartfelt aside, and was most likely not on the Teleprompter.  And we all know what happens when The One goes off TP.  The basic problem is that Barry, or most likely the people who write his “soaring rhetoric” are unaware of the difference between Memorial Day, when we honor those that have given their lives, and Veteran’s Day, when we honor all those who have served in our military.

Sadly, Barry still has not learned this lesson when he said,

people can honor veterans by sending a letter or care package to troops overseas, volunteering at health clinics or taking supplies to a homeless veterans center. He said it could also mean something as simple as saying “thank you” to a veteran walking by on the street.

These are actions we all stand behind, and no one could argue otherwise, but they are more specifically related to Veteran’s Day.  Of course, in an ideal world these would be actions that a grateful citizenry would take on a daily basis, and many do.  But Barry’s words prove that he misunderstands the significance of both holidays, which ultimately diminishes their respective importance, and more likely demonstrates his disdain for all things military.  He even had the temerity to say this,

”And yet, all too often in recent years and decades, we, as a nation, have failed to live up to that responsibility. We have failed to give them the support they need or pay them the respect they deserve.

Clean up your own house first Barry.  You worked very hard to undermine their success in Iraq.  Dingy Harry Reid declared the war was lost.  You yourself predicted the surge would fail.  John Kerry called the soldiers terrorists.  Scumbag Jack Murtha accused Marines of murdering in cold blood, and has never apologized, even though all were acquitted.  And on, and on.

Michelle Malkin has more.
