Barry and border insanity part II
I have written many times of the problems of illegal immigration, and the problems that arise from lax enforcement. See here, here and here, just for starters. So you will pardon me for being a little more than skeptical when I read the following opening to an article on increased enforcement by the Obama administration,
The Obama administration is expanding a program initiated by President George W. Bush aimed at checking the immigration status of virtually every person booked into local jails. In four years, the measure could result in a tenfold increase in illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes
Wow, I hear you say. Tenfold? That’s awesome. Yeah, well ten times zero is still zero. People all over the blogosphere have been pontificating on the motives . No way will Barry be the one to crack down on illegal immigration. So, what is the catch. I think it is quite simple. They are attempting to re-define the problem. If they are able to deport all criminal illegal aliens, that is to say the ones we have caught breaking laws other than crossing the border, then it stands to reason that the remaining illegal aliens are definitely not criminals, right? Well, then we should make an effort to give them legal status as we have just proved they are not bad guys, right? Of course, that means that we no longer consider the act of illegally entering the country a crime. That, in and of itself is a de facto amnesty, and will encourage more invaders to risk their lives in crossing the border. Listen to this bit of nonsense,
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has made it “very clear” that her top priority is deporting illegal immigrants who have committed crimes,
Well then, that would be all of them. Except for one thing. The genius Jimmy Napolitano was not even aware that entering this country was a crime, as she showed us here. Even though she is a former (lousy) border state governor and knowledge of such laws would surely feature in her current job description. Uber-liberal nitwit, hypocrite and chanteuse Sting and his chums at Amnesty International had this to say,
Amnesty International and immigrant advocates warn that the change could lead to immigration checks in other arenas and the “criminalization” of illegal immigration.
How can anyone with a brain in their head (I know, I know ) compose a sentence with “criminalization” of illegal “ in it, and expect to be taken seriously? How dare the USA try to turn an innocent illegal act into a criminal one? The stupidity is staggering. You can read the whole thing at The Washington Post here, but I will leave the final words of wisdom to this gentleman.
“If the Obama administration abandons immigration enforcement in all but the most serious criminal cases, then they will create a de facto amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants and will encourage even more illegal immigration,” said  Rep. Lamar Smith (Tex.)
Changed my mind,
“Many, many legal immigrants are going to be pulled into this net even for minor violations that they’re booked for — traffic violations, drunk driving, whatever — and after they’ve lived here 10 or 20 years, they’re going to be deported
And he says that like it’s a bad thing-but it also show why it will never happen. Sad.
Naturally, this invoked a lively discussion over at Hot Air.
