Teach your children well…

So sang David, Steven and Graham back in the day.  And they certainly did.  The sad part is that today people on the left consistently act out, like children, but are rarely disciplined for their actions.  I am referring to the Correspondents Dinner where Ms Sykes behaved terribly.  For which she will receive no retribution.  This week we saw Olbermann say that “Reagan is dead, and was a lousy President.”  We also saw Garofalo act out by calling those who supported Carrie Prejean as “White Power.”  We have also witnessed Perez Hilton and Michael Musto attempt to destroy Ms California for holding the same viewpoint as the majority of America, and indeed the current President, on gay marriage.  They will not be required to apologize.  A golf commentater made a dopey remark about Pelosi and Reid, and has already apologized.  That is the difference between the left and the right.  It may also be why they are winning.  We hold ourselves to high standards, yet they are required to exhibit none.  Therefore they win by default.

Toby Harnden was at the correspondent’s dinner, and had this to say,

I was at the dinner and I began by laughing at Sykes’s gentle teases about the press loving Obama so much they never capture him on film smoking but often seem to get him on the beach.

Isn’t that interesting?  The Prez was on the cover of Health magazine, but it seems he is still a secret smoker.  As a former smoker, I hope he is able to kick the habit, as it is the best gift he could ever give himself.  But it seems the press may be covering for him.  What a surprise!  But there is also this,

She then concluded: ”Rush Limbaugh, I hope the country fails, I hope his kidneys fail, how about that? He needs a good waterboarding, that’s what he needs.” Obama seemed to think this bit was pretty hilarious, grinning and chuckling and turning to share the “joke” with the person sitting on his right.

There’s not much room for differing interpretations of what Sykes said. She called Limbaugh a terrorist and a traitor, suggested that he be tortured and wished him dead.

Obama seemed to think this bit was pretty hilarious, grinning and chuckling and turning to share the “joke” with the person sitting on his right.

And Obama laughing when someone wishes Limbaugh dead? Hard to take from the man who promised a new era of civility and elevated debate in Washington.

Go read the article and decide for yourself.  The saddest part for me is that once upon a time, discourse was civil.  Now it is strident.  Check out the comments at the link.  I have said this before, but the more the pols can divide us by making us fight amongst each other, the more they are able to retain power.   Stop arguing with your neighbor.  Join with him to kick the bums out.

Michelle Malkin adds to the story.
