Jimmy Napolitano solves another crisis, how does he do it?

In her continuing quest to eliminate problems, by simply re-naming them, DHS Secretary Jimmy Nap hit another new low today. Apparently, referring to the current flu virus by its correct name of swine flu is offensive to producers of porcine products.

U.S. pork producers are finding that the name of the virus spreading from Mexico is affecting their business, prompting U.S. officials to argue for changing the name from swine flu.

At a news briefing, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack took pains to repeatedly refer to the flu as the “H1N1 virus.”

This ridiculous obsession with PC nomenclature is diminishing the very little credibility she brought to the position in the first place. I expect we will angrily hear from Foster Farms next time there is an outbreak of chicken pox. Then we had these pearls of wisdom,

acting director Richard Besser said was leading to the misapprehension that people can catch the disease from pork.

I’ve got a better idea. Instead of aiding and abetting in the dumbing down of America, would it not be better to increase awareness of what actually causes it, rather than removing a word from its name that doesn’t? This is the same kind of bass-ackwards thinking that cost a white DC mayoral staffer his job when he used the word “niggardly.” Instead of educating people and explaining its true meaning of stinginess, the knee jerk reaction is to condemn the user of the word because the listener “thinks” it sounds like another word they do not like. Alll this does is shut down speech of any kind.

On the other hand, as an Arizonan, I am so glad that Jimmy is making such a pig’s ear, oh yes I did, of her day job. The reason is that when she is fired, and it will be soon, she has absolutely no chance of returning to Arizona in any capacity, which makes me very grateful. She received so much cover from the press here in AZ for all her missteps, that it must be a very unpleasant surprise for her to finally be called to task by the MSM. Good times.
