Hey Barry, I was born at night, but not last night
It seems that Team Obama, whilst not actually acknowledging the existence of the tea parties, is sufficiently rattled by their success and feels the need to act. However, the chosen course of action merely underscores how out of touch the administration is, or how little they really care. From the Washington Post,
“As part of his commitment to go line by line through the budget to cut spending and reform government, he will challenge his Cabinet to cut a collective 100 million dollars in the next 90 days,”
So said the White House. Now imagine that statement in the voice of Dr Evil. We just need #2 interrupting to explain what a paltry sum that really is. Seriously, 100 million dollars is walking around money these days. Ed Morrissey, over at Hot Air had this to say,
a big reduction in spending through budget cuts at federal agencies. Obama has done just that — with cuts that amount to a whopping 0.0029% of the budget Obama just pushed Congress to provide him:
Let me see; if your family budget is $50,000 per year,  a  .0029% reduction would trim your outgoings by $1.45 annually. Almost enough to buy a half gallon of milk, or about three quarters of a gallon of gas. Feel better now?
At the tea party I was at yesterday, the folks were very clear with their disgust for politicians in general. They are tired of the same bloated self-serving pols, of both stripes, making deals for their own benefit at our expense. Barry trimming this minuscule amount from the budget, and thereby claiming that he is cutting costs, is not only laughable, it is insulting to anyone with half a brain. The sense of the crowd that I felt at the protest was one of anger, yes, but more importantly a sense of empowerment at last. There was quite a bit of levity because I think that the attendees felt they were part of a nascent solution, that could accomplish great things. As I have often said, we already have term limits and we need to exercise them at the ballot box.Â
Further proof that Barry is not taking us seriously, yet,
an address to Congress in February, Obama said his administration has identified $2 trillion in deficit reduction over the next decade. That savings projection, however, rests on a dubious baseline, including assuming that the United States would have retained its current troop level in Iraq for the next decade
They are still spouting this oft-debunked bilge. They are claiming as a budget reduction, the savings garnered from no longer having to prosecute the war in Iraq. A war which we won, and which Barry and his ilk opposed. I’ll leave you with this last word,
In the long run, Summers said, the nation’s economy is going to have to become less reliant on borrowing and consumption, even if that is what is needed now to prevent the recession from worsening.
Said without a trace of irony as they borrow us into oblivion.
