Reasons to be tearful, part II

Amongst the understandable excitement over the tea party protests today, another story seems to be flying underneath the radar; however it is important.  Via HotAir we have a Q&O story about renowned tax cheat and head of the IRS Tim Geithner.  As we all know, old Timmy did not bother to pay his taxes prior to his current job at Treasury, but we were told that his expertise was so vital, as yet unproven except to the contrary, that he had to be confirmed.  It seems that IRS employees are upset because many have been fired in the past, as per IRS regulations, for minor errors or even late filing.  They wonder why they are held to such a high standard, when their boss is not.  I agree with Ed Morrissey that their solution is incorrect.  They wish to lower the standard for everyone, where I believe that Geithner should actually be held to the same, if not higher standard and should resign.

The Treasury secretary, who oversees the IRS, didn’t pay all his taxes. Neither did five other top nominees for the Obama administration, or their spouses.

Indeed, I wish the union employees had been a little more vocal during the confirmation hearings, as a public outcry at that time may have had a damaging effect on the process.  Read the whole thing.
