The skinny on DC fatcats…
Barry, San Fran Nan, Dingy Harry et al have constantly been disparaging insurance companies involved in health care, in their zeal to demonize them. They speak loudly, and often, of obscene profits. Guess what? They are being less than truthful, to the surprise of no-one. From WFAA.com,
In the health care debate, Democrats and their allies have gone after insurance companies as rapacious profiteers making “immoral” and “obscene” returns while “the bodies pile up…”I’m very pleased that (Democratic leaders) will be talking, too, about the immoral profits being made by the insurance industry and how those profits have increased in the Bush years.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who also welcomed the attention being drawn to insurers’ “obscene profits.”
At least they adhere to the talking points. Except for one little problem.
Health insurers posted a 2.2 percent profit margin last year, placing them 35th on the Fortune 500 list of top industries…HealthSpring, the best performer in the health insurance industry, posted 5.4 percent. That’s a less profitable margin than was achieved by the makers of Tupperware, Clorox bleach and Molson and Coors beers…
Guess who else did better than the insurances companies even as we were in the grip of a so-called worst depression since the Thirties, courtesy of G W Bush?

They really are without shame. Please vote them out in 2010.
Update: From Ed Morrissey over at Hot Air, look who else made out like bandits in the  profits dept.
In comparison, trial lawyers showed a profit margin of almost 14%, six times that of the health insurers. Do Democrats scream about villainous trial lawyers and windfall profits taxes on those that exploit the legal system and drive prices up across all American industries? No, because the trial lawyers share a good portion of their filthy lucre with Democrats.
Ouch! That’s gonna leave a mark.
Now that you are clued in, go take a poll over at Patterico’s.
