More ACORN truths

Many of my readers find themselves trapped, geographically, because of job requirements in an enclave of left-leaning Obamatrons who constantly spout the party line without question.  I am often asked for ammo that can be used to rebut some of the nuttier claims out there, and I am happy to help where I can.  The latest travails of ACORN have caused the usual suspects to come out from under their rocks to defend the leeches that infest that organization.  The party line is that the sordid deeds of a few bad eggs in no way detracts from all the good that ACORN has done over the years.  Patent lies, which I shall now demonstrate to you, with the help of The American Spectator,

ACORN grew out of the tumultuous 1960s. Founder Wade Rathke, who was charged with inciting violence in 1970 after a welfare rally he organized turned into a riot, had worked as a draft resistance organizer for the radical group Students for a Democratic Society. SDS splintered over tactics and one faction, the Weather Underground, was led by President Obama’s friend Bill AyersThey defined a model of political and economic subversion that called upon activists to pack the welfare rolls to spread dependency, bankrupt the government, and cause uprisings against the capitalist system. Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani blames the Cloward-Piven Strategy for pushing his city close to bankruptcy in 1975…In other words, ACORN was created not to help people, but to get people on welfare in order to bring change to society.

Got that?  More people on welfare equals more people dependent on, and controlled by, the government.  Notice that Barry’s casual acquaintance Bill Ayers, unrepentant terrorist, also shows up.  What a surprise!

They also bleat that ACORN has helped register to vote the poor and disenfranchised, the same folks that Democrats work overtime to keep poor and disenfranchised, so they are a benefit to society.  Bullcrap!

One of “the most popular canards on the right, repeated constantly by conservative pundits and politicians, is that ACORN has been found guilty of engaging in deliberate voter fraud, using federal funds,” Conason writes. “In reality, ACORN has registered close to 2 million low-income citizens across the country over the past five years — a laudable record with a very low incidence of fraud of any kind.”

In fact, last year more than 400,000 of the 1.3 million voter registrations the group claimed to have collected were thrown out as invalid. ACORN is under indictment in Nevada for conspiracy to commit election fraud and under investigation in Cleveland, Ohio. In Ohio, a person named Darnell Nash was indicted by a grand jury for casting a fraudulent ballot. Nash was registered multiple times by ACORN. ACORN remains under investigation in Cleveland by the local prosecutor, a Democrat.

Another of ACORN’s little tricks is to hold back as many “new” registrations as possible right up till the deadline, and then dump them en masse in the laps of officials in order to overwhelm them, and consequently impair their ability to verify them.  It is, as you can see, a recurring theme in their work-push the system to breaking point.  Also, do not be fooled by last week’s display of de-funding ACORN, as flourished in the House.  It was an attachment to another bill, which could easily be stripped out in committee.  We need a stand alone bill, with no attachments, that will have to be signed, or vetoed, by Barry himself.  We will not allow him to vote present on this one, try as he might.

The other great canard is the minimum wage fiasco that has ACORN displaying its flexible principles.  They argue that by forcing minimum wage increases, they garner more votes from grateful poor people which benefits the Democrats.  Except, they were for it, before they were against it.  Except that, mandatory wage hikes cause jobs to be lost.  Ask any of the millions of kids that were unable to find summer jobs this year because of them.  This is chutzpah personified,

ACORN’s involvement in this campaign is amusing because a few years ago the group sued the state of California for exemption from its minimum wage requirement, which was higher than the federal government’s. In its appellate brief, ACORN acknowledged that the more it had to pay each worker, the fewer such workers it would be able to hire. Of course, the same thing is true for. businesses as well, something minimum wage advocates refuse to admit.

Wait, it’s coming…

Furthermore, ACORN argued that paying its workers less than the minimum wage aided its organizing efforts. Said the brief, “A person paid limited sums of money will be in a better position to empathize with and relate to the low and moderate membership and constituency of ACORN.”

Unbelievable!  But, that’s not all.  Despite being in bed with the unions, in particular the SEIU, Barry’s thugs of choice in the tea party protests, they do not allow their employees to organize.

Indeed, ACORN has a history of denying its workers the rights that it demands from corporations. For example, its “People’s Platform” says that all workers have the right to organize. Yet, when its own workers tried to do so, ACORN strenuously fought them.  In 2001, all of the workers in ACORN’s Seattle office signed cards stating a desire to join the Industrial Workers of the World, a labor union with a long history of radicalism. ACORN’s management refused to recognize the union and locked out the workers.

Read the rest here.  Remember, ACORN is a criminal organization.  Call your congress-idiot today, and tell him/her that the gig is up.  We demand a special prosecutor and a complete shut-down of this illegal enterprise.  And don’t let elected Republicans tell you how disgusted they are.  They are complicit by ommission.  They have turned a blind eye to all the federal grants for years.  Either fix it now, or you will be gone.

Over at Michelle Malkin, we discover the investigation is under way.  She also reiterates the three questions that must be answered.

1) How Team Obama hid its $800,000 campaign payment to ACORN through front group “Citizen Services, Inc.â€;

2) How Team Obama shared donor lists with the president’s old employer, ACORN affiliate Project Vote, a 501(c)(3) organization, which is prohibited from engaging in political activity (Mr. President, meet Anita MonCrief);

3) And how Project Vote and hundreds of myriad entities intermingled non-profit, tax-exempt funding with the national ACORN flagship’s political operations — a buried story Obama would know about if he read NYTimes reporter Stephanie Strom’s report last October before she was muzzled as Election Day drew near.

Here is an interesting report on the ACORN/SEIU connection at BigGovernment.
