“Dollar” Bill Jefferson headed for the hoosegow, finally…

Score one for the good guys, at last.  From Fox News,

A federal jury convicted a former U.S. congressman Wednesday of taking bribes on 11 of 16 counts in a case in which agents found $90,000 in his freezer.  Former Rep. William Jefferson, a Democrat who had represented parts of New Orleans, was accused of accepting more than $400,000 in bribes and seeking millions more in exchange for brokering business deals in Africa.

It took a while, but the result was worth the wait. This part made me laugh, Billy must be dumber than a box of rocks,

In one recording played by defense attorneys, Jefferson explained that he did not want his name on any of the deals to avoid an appearance of impropriety.

Let’s hope this is the first of many such convictions.  Are you paying attention Dodd, Rangel, Murtha et al?  I am doubly pleased because, as you may remember, in the days directly after Hurrican Katrina, it was Jefferson who commandeered military personnel, that could have been rescuing real folks in need, to swing by his house to grab some of his personal “effects.”  From Riehl World View,

Witness your tax dollars at work. Poor people are dying, havoc in the streets – and this elected (your expletive of choice here)  is using military resources to clean things out of his house. This is the epitome of what is wrong with American politics – no, check that – that this pathetic individual will get away with it without a fuss – THAT is the true measure of what is wrong with politics in America.   I am so fed up with these so called power brokers thinking the public dime should be at their disposal, regardless of the circumstances. The fact is, that shouldn’t be the case under ANY circumstances.

This man, and many more like him in Congress, have an over-developed sense of entitlement. It is beyond time to disavow them of this notion.  Vote them out in 2010.

Michelle Malkin has more.

Let the discussion commence, over at Patterico’s.
