It’s like putting Tommy Lee in charge of your swimming pool…

I have written so many times of the travails of Sen. Chris Dodd (Scumbag-Conn), see here and here for a smattering, that he feels like a member of the family.  He would be the black sheep, of course, but you get my point.  Dodd has been in the spotlight for his sweetheart deals from the now defunct Countrywide mortgage company.  Allegedly,  he received favorable rates and terms in a scheme that has come to be known as “Friends of Angelo”, after its architect the now disgraced, and indicted, Angelo Mozilo.

Well lucky for us, Congress is a self-policing organization, so there is no doubt we will get to the bottom of this with a hard hitting investigation from an impartial source.  Right?  Wrong!  From the AP, via Breitbart,

House Democrats have declined to subpoena available records that might reveal whether other members of Congress got discounted VIP mortgages from subprime lender Countrywide Financial Corp. similar to the sweetheart deals given Democratic Sens. Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad.

Who can blame them?  Why go to all that trouble just to get to the bottom of a scandal that almost single-handedly destroyed the real estate market?  Also, it would be a massive inconvenience to Bank of America who took over Countrywide, wouldn’t it?

Daniel Frahm, a Bank of America spokesman, said the bank is ready to turn over the Countrywide VIP documents if it receives a subpoena. The bank’s lawyer sent Issa the same message in a June letter.  “They have it packed and ready to go,” Issa said in the interview.

Then what could possibly be stopping them?

Rep. Edolphus Towns, D-N.Y., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said he has other work to do on the causes of and fixes for the financial crisis and will not interfere with other investigations of the VIP loans.

In other words, just circling the wagons as usual.

The Ethics Committee’s investigation is limited to whether the two senators violated standards of conduct, and the committee has no jurisdiction beyond investigating senators or Senate employees.

Is there anybody alive today who believes that a congress-critter has any “standards of conduct” beyond not getting caught?  If there is, I’d like to meet him…I could use a good laugh.

Update:  Today we learn that Dodd has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  The good news for him is that when detected in the early stages, it is one of the most successfully treated cancers.  Which is good news for us, too.  I would like nothing more for him to live a long and healthy life…in the big house.  Just not the one he obtained in Ireland through nefarious means.

More over at Michelle Malkin.

Update:  More reasons the Dems are blocking investigation into the Friends of Angelo boondoggle over at Hot Air.
