What’s that thing about opening your mouth and removing all doubt?

In the curious case of The SoSo [that's Debbie Schlussel's nifty nick name for Sonia Sotomayor] Kerfuffle, we have already seen both Barry and Gibbsy bend over backwards in order to restate, walk back and generally re-hash her stupid “wise Latina” remarks.  Now we have the spectacle of Dingy Harry Reid speaking out in her favor and proudly professes that he never ever even read one of her opinions, and hopes he won’t have to.

How on Earth do the people of Nevada continue to vote for this numpty?  Has he gotten worse, or is it my imagination?  Please do the right thing in 2010.

Ed over at Hot Air hits the nail on the head.

Er, then how does he know that “we could not have anyone better qualified” than Sotomayor? Because Harry Reid’s biggest aspiration as a public servant nowadays is to carry Obama’s water. Not a surprise at all, but it’s always good to get that on the record.

One person clearly did not get the message that Obambi and Gibbs were sending,

Leahy had asked Sotomayor, 54, what she meant when she said in 2001 that she hoped her decisions as a “wise Latina” would be better than those of a white male who hadn’t had the same experiences. Prominent Republicans have cited the 2001 remark to call her a racist.

Leahy said the judge told him: “Of course one’s life experience shapes who you are, but … as a judge, you follow the law.”

For the record I do not beleive that her remarks make her racist, although as a member of La Raza she almost certainly is.  However, her remark that,

“All of the legal defense funds out there, they’re looking for people with Court of Appeals experience. Because it is — Court of Appeals is where policy is made,” she said. “And I know, and I know, that this is on tape, and I should never say that. Because we don’t ‘make law,’ I know. [Laughter from audience] Okay, I know. I know. I’m not promoting it, and I’m not advocating it. I’m, you know.

The highlighted part.  That right there disqualifies her from the Supreme Court.  But perceived racism plays much better in today’s America.  Sadly.

Seriously, the Dems are like the gang that can’t shoot straight.  Now this,

Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor told Sen. Dianne Feinstein Tuesday her controversial Latina remarks were a “poor choice of words,” the California Democrat said.

“She said, ‘Obviously it was a poor choice of words if you read on and read the rest of my speech you wouldn’t be concerned with it but it was a poor choice of words,’” Feinstein told reporters.

From Patterico we discover that she has been “wise latina-ing” for a long time.  Color me surprised.
