He was never gonna close Gitmo from the gitgo

A poll was published today by USA Today in which we discover that Americans oppose closing Gitmo by a margin of 2-1.  Interestingly, although that is a plurality, an astounding 42% had no opinion.  On Gitmo?  That makes no sense.  As Ed Morrissey  over at Hot Air notes,

At this point, with years of debate over Gitmo, how can almost half of the respondents not have an opinion on it?  While the Right can legitimately point to the 2-1 split among those who have an opinion, the 42% undecided is one of the highest numbers I’ve ever seen on a national issue of such a high profile.

I respect Ed’s analysis, but I think there is more to this story.  Most polls are skewed in order to obtain the results they want, we all know that.  That is why it is so difficult to hold any store by them, even when you agree with the results.  I think, in this case, they are providing Barry with an exit strategy.  He can point to the polls and declare that “the mood in America has changed.”  “Americans no longer, blah, blah, blah.”   “Nothing to see here”.

You get the picture.  And the media will gladly cover his rear in blind obeisance, as they always do.  He never intended to close the facility, but that position would not have got him elected.  Pragmatic Barry and another of his promises with an expiration date.  Business as usual.
